Maya to Aztec: Ancient Mesoamerica Revealed, Part 2

Great Courses DVD class taught by Professor Edwin Barnhart of the Maya Exploration Center

Facilitated by Virgil Knoche

Thursdays, noon to 1:30 pm

Archeologist Barnhart details the history and culture of Mesoamerican societies, focusing on the Maya and Aztec cultures.

The Maya had been in Mesoamerica for thousands of years, and the Aztecs mysteriously appeared late

and rose swiftly to power, controlling the region for less than a century until the arrival of Hernán Cortés in the early 1500’s.

Barnhart spotlights the encounter with Cortés and his small army and shows how Mesoamerica was transformed forever.
