APPLYING FOR A LIBRARY CARD
Applying for a Library Card:
- Fill out the Library Card Application (PDF) available at the circulation desk, or fill out our Online Library Card registration page.
- Submit your application or online library card number in person to the library for completion of the full registration process.
- Online library card users will have limited online access until their card is verified and converted to a regular library card.
- Verify your identification when visiting the library.
- Parents must sign library card applications for children to receive general cards.
- View Library Card Holder Privileges and Responsibilities.
- Add no-reply@mendocinocounty.gov to your email delivery permissions to receive notifications.
You must have your card in order to:
- Check out materials.
- Request a book from another branch.
- Use library internet workstations.
- Gain access to databases from outside the Library (some databases may be limited by residence zip code).
- Check out online e-books and audio books.
- Access your account.
If your library card is lost or stolen, call the library immediately.
To get a limited use library card good for one year, you need an ID.
To get a general library card, you need an ID and a proof of California address.

Additional Card Types:
The following are acceptable forms of ID:
- State Driver's License or ID Card
- Passport Book or Card
- School Issued ID
- Tribal ID
- Matricula Consular ID
- Law Enforcement ID
- Military ID
- Government Issued ID
- Green Card or Permanent Resident Card
- Other Credible ID such as Credit Card with photo
The following are acceptable for address verification:
- Current Driver's License
- California DMV ID
- Printed Checks
- Car Registration
- Legal Papers
- Current Mail (no older than 1 month)
